David Alvarez established Causa after 15 years of successful government service including eight years as a San Diego City Councilmember for District 8. He has served as an appointed member of major San Diego public organizations including the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, San Diego Association of Governments, and Metropolitan Transit System. He has also served on the Board of the League of Cities Latino Caucus and currently serves on the national Board of Local Progress.

Among David’s proudest achievements are the building of major infrastructure projects like Cesar Solis Park, a new library branch in San Ysidro, and the updating of community plans in Southeast San Diego, Otay Mesa, and San Ysidro. David has been an advocate in Sacramento, Washington DC and in Mexico to move projects forward. Projects include the San Ysidro Port of Entry Modernization, Cross Border Xpress and the increasing in Customs personnel for land, sea and air Ports of Entry. As an Airport Authority Boardmember, David oversaw the Airport’s Greenbuild, Rental Car Center, and Terminal 2 parking garage developments. In addition to leading bi-partisan efforts to eliminate regulations and unnecessary bureaucracies, David also assisted in settling the De La Fuente lawsuit, the largest and longest running legal case in city history.

Causa Consulting was envisioned by David as a firm focused on clients, that is purpose driven. Our causas (causes) are our clients and their projects. They are businesses and organizations that see the potential of our binational relationship with Mexico or see the opportunity to create economic development and prosperity in San Diego. As a strategist that has led many efforts, David believes that every project is a campaign and that the success of causas is accomplished in partnership with the community.

David was born and raised in Barrio Logan. He and his wife Xochitl, a successful educator, are raising their daughter and son in the community in which they grew up, hoping they learn the value of hard work, community and strong moral character. David volunteers on the Board of Kim Center, the San Diego Coffee Training Institute, and PTA. Xochitl volunteers countless hours leading the Logan/Sherman Girl Scouts Troop and a YMCA soccer team.
